We find that the intermediate step of “making a new appointment” in the cashier process is completely confusing. It is better for us to finish the cashier process first and then make a new appointment.
Could I set this somewhere already? Maybe someone can help me with that.

Try booking the appointment before checkout (best practices) so the client doesn't walk out the door before you secure a future appt and then it hopefully won't be confusing.
